And it took resilience to figure out where to go to keep going. Um, I. Called I'm a Baha'i and I call it the Baha'i community. They found some people willing to take me that would take a dog, because people weren't always willing to take a dog, even a sweet little dog like her. Um, so she she just adapted wherever we went. But the, the first home we went to. There were other dogs, and there was a huge yard, and my dog was not used to a yard or a doggy door or anything because I just used to walk her. And we'd go to the JP by JPL. There's the Hahamongna stream, and that's where we would walk or around the block. So there was a man who Derek Smith, who is a professor of oral history, and he sat with me in that parking lot, and it was so great to meet this person and talk to him while we tried to figure out where I was going to go next, and I went to, I couldn't figure out how to navigate their online registration. So he like, put it in his name. And I went to the Ace Hotel. So. I was able to land places, and some of it was because I had to reach out. I mean, it was a stretch. I told a friend of mine who lives in Las Vegas that I knew she had sisters in LA. Is there anybody that could take me in? And they and one of them did. So people were very generous when I was there, but it was hard to like. People had different standards for what a dog would do in their house. Like my dog just goes to the most comfortable spot to sit. But in one house, like in that house, you do not sit on a couch or a chair or anything. You're like, you know, on the floor. Anyway. So I'd like to mention to you how meaningful it was to have people that cared in this time. So there was no cleaning of the outside anyway. So. After Rumi by accident, smelled the dog at my 10th displacement and peed on their very precious rug and I couldn't be there anymore. Um. I went back to my place and I felt so grateful, um, to be home, to not have to, like, be on alert, that I'm going to smear something on a counter or not wash the dishes the way they do, or that the dog was, you know, not going to do anything unexpected. You know, it was hard to understand. I mean, yeah, I really want to talk about some of the things that have helped and in particular. There were people that came around at times that were so kind in action. Um, but the first thing I thought about when you asked this question is, you know, I'm a Baha'i and we have sacred mystical books, and I read them and I contemplate what they mean. If I didn't have things that, like, opened up my heart like that and gave me spirit. I don't know if I would have made it. It really helped me. Um, and, um. Other people that were people of faith, um, or people of kindness or both were really helped. And so this one organization and I'll tell you about called A Sense of Home. Okay. So I heard about a sense of home from an organization named core, which was camped out across the street at the Adventist church. And I didn't hear back from them for a while, and I just thought, it's not going to happen. But I had thrown away all my furniture and appliances and bedding because of toxicity. And, um, their thing was to supply stuff at home for your home. So eventually I heard from them and they said to me, um, what would you love to see in your home? So I wrote, you know, and I said everything. And eventually I said, and if if it happens to work out, I'd love to have a lazy Susan. So we set a date, and I went over there, and they had a warehouse, and they had it all set up as my living space. They had a desk for me, a couch, a round table that I had asked for. They had even found this beautiful mosaic, Lazy Susan. Um, but maybe the best thing about this all, which was really special, was that they sat down and talked to me like you are. because people really need to tell their stories, and they each gave me a word to inspire me. And the words were somebody wrote them down comfort, pivot, community and love. And they put their names on the other side. So after they talked with me, they they put their hands. Everybody these volunteers put their hands in the center and they did a cheer and they went, Claudia, I was so sweet. And I found a note from them in my appliance, in my kitchen bag that they gave me that said, um, our hearts are with you. You are not alone.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164596/file/299705#t=431.28,642.01"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164596/file/299705/index/90463","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-10-29 21:46:15) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164596/file/299705/index/90463/annotation/11","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Introduction and Background","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164596/file/299705#t=0.0,22.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164596/file/299705/index/90463/annotation/12","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker introduces herself as Claudia Gold, providing her full name and initials.
