Um, so I'm, um. Miriam. I've taught in Altadena at Everson Charter School since 2011. Um, and then lived off and on in the city for like ten years. I, um, I'm a community member. I teach at a school where most of the students live in Altadena or Pasadena. Um, so and I have a lot of roles within the school. I'm an English English teacher. I'm also a trip coordinator. Um, and I do a lot of, um, experiential learning with my students. Um, so yeah, I would say that's kind of my role. Um, that words come up a lot since the fires. Um, I think, uh, particularly, um, at Everson as the school was so affected. I think it means, um, strength through adversity, um, uh, pushing forward, um, Trying to stay positive when you can. Um. Uh, yeah, just, I don't know, kind of like having the strength to kind of get through the next day and the day after that. Um, yeah. Despite difficulties. Yeah. Um, I think it's showed an incredible, incredible amount of resilience. Um, I don't currently live in Altadena. Um, but I know people that do, um, and obviously, I mean, through my work, there's, um, Everson schools were super affected. And so I see Everson as part of, um, the community that has shown a lot of resilience, um, through supporting one another through the community. Um, Altadena has had multiple events. Um, they go I follow a lot of the social media accounts where they have gatherings at the different restaurants that are opening, um, just the strength provided even online is is amazing. Um, and so yeah, I think there's still a lot of hurt. I think there's a lot of growth. And, um, but I do see a strive towards resilience, um, within smaller communities, within the larger and the larger community at whole. Yeah. You know, you, uh, you take it day by day for sure. Um, I would say that I, I found a lot of strength immediately afterwards and, um, teaching and being around students and writing about it and writing about it myself, um, what had happened and the things that I had lost and also just memories. And then also, you know, having you guys do that as well, um, and then reading other people's experiences and then having a poetry night and just even the planning of all of those things really helped. Um. may find strength in the the sadness, I guess. Um, and. Yeah, just just leaning into community and leaning into being vulnerable, um, with other people, I think has really helped kind of get through this time. Um, I cry. I actually, I, um, I was in the Bay area with friends most of the summer, and I saw a lot of friends that I hadn't seen since the fire. And so it was a lot of retelling the story, um, to people, you know, because they wanted to know and they hadn't seen me. And so that I found myself crying and and having, you know, breaking down and then, you know, an hour later, laughing and listening to music and dancing. You know, um, and so I those, I know those moments are going to be had. I've had I've had them a lot I think even more this summer because I'm not working. Um, but those are things that I think we need to do in order to get that out. And then, you know, be positive and actually like, you know, because we have like processing that kind of stuff. So, I mean, I think that that can be scary for people too, is that, you know, that you're going to have moments where you're not going to be resilient, but then you also know that you can't, that as human beings, I truly believe we all have the strength to get through the most difficult things. And we will and I will. So, um, I think it's really important why I appreciate what you this whole project is, is that you tell that story. You keep that story alive. I think that it's one thing that, um, it doesn't worry me, but I, I could see happening with Altadena. For those of us people that don't live here, that it's going to be one of those things that happened a long time ago. And people forget. And I think it's important that we keep those stories alive. Not that we want to sit with the fire, but that we could help other people, their communities. You know, I never felt a connection to Paradise or to even to Malibu. Um, you know, when they had fires before. And now I feel like this total connection. And I feel like I could really help people process those things or at least share that experience, which I think is really important when you're going through a difficult time. So, um, yeah, I'm hoping that this is, I don't know, bridge this and help people because the world is full of great things, but there's also a lot of tragedy in the world. So, um, I think that you take a lot of stuff for granted when you're not aware of that, you could lose it. And I'm not saying I think people from Altadena always felt pride about living in Altadena, but now it's a whole different thing. Um, and so really holding on to like that, we're not just neighbors, we're like this close knit group and that we have, um, this shared identity and that, as you know, it's not neighbors tit for tat. Like, you know, just in the past, I think you just took for granted that we were such a special place. And so I, I hope that people hold on to like this the least, this feeling right now of, like, togetherness, um, when life goes back to normal, you know, that's what I'm hoping. Um, I, I wrote a poem about it, um, about, um, hiking in Altadena with my dog. Um, I've had two dogs. My other dog passed away and, um, in Altadena, and. But, um, and my new dog, Rose, um, I, she grew up on the trails in behind in Eaton Canyon, um, and JPL trail just all over Cheney Trail. And I it's really like the mountains, the nature, the birds, the, you know, even the snakes, like the the natural life in those mountains there, I think are the what really, to me, made living in this like urban kind of village. But having being adjacent to that is like, what's so incredible? Um, so those are the memories that I, I think mean the most to me. No, I think with resilience, um, I've heard many people say it's been overused. We just keep saying it. And do we really mean it? And is it is that just like a thing that people say to make you feel better? Um, and I think whether we're, we have we all have what we define whatever that we define that as. It's I think it's important to, like, challenge ourselves to, to recover, um, as best we can and to continue to, like, build on that. So I think it's a good conversation to have now. I can't wait to have that conversation in a year and see, like, what has changed in that time, because even six months ago, I mean, what's happened in six months, you know? So I'm excited to see what what that resilience looks like just with more time experience.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164593/file/299702#t=3.6,491.74"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164593/file/299702/index/90460","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-11-05 20:27:16) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164593/file/299702/index/90460/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Introduction and Background","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164593/file/299702#t=0.0,40.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164593/file/299702/index/90460/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker, Miriam, introduces herself as a long-time teacher at Everson Charter School in Altadena, highlighting her decade-long connection to the city.
