I'm 17 years old. Um, I go to Westridge School here in Pasadena, and I was affected, um, by the Altadena wildfires. So I was displaced. And I'm currently displaced right now. Um, our home is still up, thank God, but, um, it's contaminated with a lot of lead and asbestos. So it's been a hard journey to fight with the insurance to get cleaning done. So just waiting on that to be completed so it's safe for us to go back. Um, definitely. I think the wildfires has been a very big shift in perspective for me. I've really learned to, um, kind of appreciate and look into, like even simple things such as a standing structure differently. I really changed my approach on how appreciative and, um, like how privileged I am to have the resources that I do. And so in that way, I've really learned to give back to my community in any way possible to help those who maybe don't have the same resources as I do. So I've definitely learned to get myself involved as much as I can and just to help out those who are less fortunate. I think, um, kind of experiencing this shared experience of the catastrophic fires, it was kind of a new approach, kind of on this tragedy. We all lost something so dear to us, and we're separated from the only thing we've ever known and grown up around. It definitely hurt emotionally and physically, and it's something still prominent today, that grief. But it's kind of what I've really appreciated through this whole experience is how we've grown from that specific moment. I know that this event doesn't define us. It's how we grow from it and seeing how everyone has used their resources and helped out the greater LA County as well as the Palisades in that hand in hand. Community involvement has been so inspiring, and that's something I definitely want to take with me. And I know Altadena will forever be that community that really came together and will forever help others, as well as help each other go through this tragedy and others to come. Um, definitely. It's still a big change. Like, I still struggle emotionally knowing that it's not going to be the same despite the rebuilding. There's always that fear and that threat of gentrification and just, um, seeing people getting ripped from, um, their generational homes. So it's definitely not going to be the same where how it used to be. But, um, looking past that, um, I definitely am, Uh, very grateful for the lessons it's taught me in how to carry myself, um, emotionally and like, in terms of how privileged I am in certain areas. Whereas, like, I can also know that the impact I can leave as a human on other people. Bring sharing my resources and sharing my experiences to help people feel at home and have as much opportunities as they can to be the best that they can. Um. Another lesson, uh, I think another thing I really am grateful for throughout this whole experience has been just learning about everyone else's experiences and just like overcoming it. So again, with that shared experience, I think it was so important just to reveal just the different walks of life. There are like, I think that's what made Altadena so beautiful, the diversity behind economic backgrounds. Ethnic differentiate. Differentiation. Differentiated beliefs like they're all so different. And I think that's what made it so important. And just to see that everyone sharing this experience and having different, um, experiences and situations based off of their different backgrounds, I think it's something that I've learned through that nothing's going to be the same. Everyone's going through something on their own. And, um, I definitely appreciate how it's brought people together. Like, we can all we can all, um, empathize with each other over this experience, but we're all carrying each other differently and carrying ourselves differently. So I think it's very important just to hear everyone's story so you can learn something from their approach on it, and then they can learn something from your own.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164574/file/299683#t=3.76,295.28"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164574/file/299683/index/90442","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-10-29 20:50:08) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164574/file/299683/index/90442/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Introduction and Personal Background","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164574/file/299683#t=0.0,14.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164574/file/299683/index/90442/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker introduces themselves as a 17-year-old rising senior attending Westridge School in Pasadena.
