And, uh, yeah, I grew up well, I grew up in La Crescenta. I went to high school in LA and then went away for college. But once it was time for me, once I had kids and wanted to settle on an elementary school, we found a little local community school called Saint Mark's and loved it so much. So we ended up buying a house in Altadena and we've been there for 12 years. Um, yeah, I guess so, because my oldest daughter, who's now 17, moved into that house when she was five. You know, I so I lived on the west side of Altadena in a it was one of the newer communities. So it was the tract housing community called Lavinia, and it was built in the 90s. And we moved in there because it was affordable, more affordable at the time. And we loved sort of the security and newness of it. Like, I didn't have to, you know, move in with three young kids and do construction on the house. So that's why we made that choice. And it was great because it was really safe. The kids could ride their bikes and run around in the streets. But I had over the years, over the past 12 years, already been seeing, um, what you call it, like multi-family housing come up. There were a couple retirement community or like elderly housing buildings coming up. So I felt like Altadena was already starting to change. Pre-fire now that the fire has happened, I, I do see that it will be more, um, whatever the term you called it like multi-family housing apart. Yes, yes. Um, I primarily work from home, but I do have an office out in Monrovia, which is not. It's not too far, but I don't I don't commute there every day. Oh my gosh. We I used to hike with my family a lot, especially, you know, during the holidays. Or if the kids didn't have school, we we had like a little trailhead out of our community. So, I mean, there were times where I would even send just the girls alone down and they would go down to the creek and catch frogs and salamanders. So it really was like, even though we were in part of greater LA County, they lived a very I don't know, what is it called like free range childhood. So yeah, I've we've hiked those trails, been to the waterfall many times. We've had bears in our backyard, seen bobcats. It's it's been very wild up there. Yeah. We were probably a block away from just nothingness, like Angeles National Forest. So we were very close. No, unfortunately, we lost our home along with five others on our street, but not the whole community. Didn't burn down. I'd say like 25% of it did. But yes, we did. I did lose my home in the fire. So, um, we're a little different in that we already made a move. Um, it was purely based on sort of our kids ages and our life, personal life stage. Like, we have a rising high school senior, a junior and a seventh grader. And the more we were working on the rebuild process, we just thought by the time we rebuild this house, we will be empty nesters. And so we just made the decision to pivot and we did end up moving. We have not yet sold our lot. Um, we likely will have to for financial reasons. But yeah, it's I think everyone it just depends on your sort of life stage at this point. Yeah, we moved down to Pasadena. We stayed pretty as close as we could because again, our kids are in high school and we didn't want to, along with losing our home. My my youngest daughter. Her school also burned down. So we just felt like it would be too much to uproot and move somewhere farther. So we're just down the hill in Pasadena. Oh gosh, that's such a great question. I, I don't know, I think everyone's if I had to put my money on it, I would guess everyone's intention would be to band together and do those things. But in reality, I it's just so hard. Like just everyone's trying to make ends meet and support their families. A lot of people, especially in Altadena, it was like generational. They have grandparents to care for and parents. And so, um, I'm not I'm not sure what what percentage of the community can actually do those things, like buy up plots or develop on it. I I've heard some stories, but again, I don't know how true they are. And, you know, I don't know how it plays out in real life. Um. Altadena strong. To me, it really was a very tight knit, sort of aspirational community. It was it was diverse. It was growing. Um, there was a lot of vibrancy. Pre-fire and I, I still think it'll be that way even during the rebuild process. Um, I think the way I see it playing out, I think everyone will always be rooting for Altadena. Like especially for us personally, although we made the decision to move, um, that's one data point. It's just our personal family needs at the time. But we are still so grateful for that community, and we love it so much that we're just always going to be Altadena. Strong will mean like, I'm always cheering for it and supporting in ways as much as I can.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164564/file/299672#t=5.44,366.87"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164564/file/299672/index/90432","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-10-29 22:32:35) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164564/file/299672/index/90432/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Background and Move to Altadena","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164564/file/299672#t=0.0,40.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164564/file/299672/index/90432/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker recounts their personal history, including growing up in La Crescenta, attending high school in Los Angeles, and leaving for college.
