My strongest memories. Well, I've grown up in Altadena my whole life, so it's definitely scattered around, and it's just been just a huge part of my life until recently, where I've been separated from it. Um, I definitely want to say Christmas Tree Lane is one of my favorite memories in Altadena. Just seeing the vibrancy of the lights and just how alive the community is throughout this time is definitely a huge part of me, and I still carry that memory with me to this day. And honestly, I probably say another big community memory I've had is the, um, community involvement throughout the relief of the fires. I think that has been definitely significant memory, seeing how my community has come together despite the tragedy. It's been really beautiful to see, and it's something that I really want to carry with me throughout my life, just to really use as a reflection and how I want to perceive myself through resilience despite the tragedy. So, um. Okay, Christmas Tree Lane, at least my family's tradition has been. It's usually on Christmas where we would go, um, walk from my house to Christmas Tree Lane because my family does it a little bit differently. So we celebrate Christmas, um, the whole night and wait until 12 a.m. to open presents. So we have a bunch of time to kill. So we usually go and walk down the Christmas tree lane and it'll be all lit up. The houses are fully decorated and a lot of them are interactive houses, which is really cool. So you're able to go up like take photos in certain areas or like interact with these, um, decorations. So it was really cool just to see how everyone is willing to go out to bring this sense of community and just happiness to everyone experiencing this holiday. Um, so yeah, it was really beautiful. And also just like seeing the pine trees too. It was it was a good smell that I do miss right now. Okay. Um, it's a little foggy just because I tried my best to kind of forget the moment in which it happened. Um, but I do remember coming from school and seeing, like, the winds were super strong and me and my friends had actually been joking about the wind strength. Um, there was this photo my friend took. She was like, oh my God, guys, it's so windy. But like it didn't look windy at all. So we were just like laughing about it. And then a couple hours later I had to evacuate because the winds were so strong and the fires happened. So it was all kind of sudden. It was unexpected for sure. Um, the power outage happens and, um, we, I started getting really nervous just because it felt really intense. And just to see the notifications of the fires, apps that are helping me determine where the fire is spreading to, um, that really made me nervous. So as time went on, I started making my emergency kit, packing anything valuable to me. Um, some emergency clothes, if anything, just for safety precautions. And so, um, as the fire started to spread and get bigger, we were actually able to see it from my house, um, which was really scary because it definitely looked like it was coming down towards us. And we had thought, there's no chance that it's coming to us like, this is in the mountains. The level of intensity had to reach to come down to at least like even the houses on the borders of the mountains would be really, really extreme. And so it was all really unexpected. But as we started to see some houses get lit on fire, we decided to make the decision to leave without the evacuation notice where you had to leave. Um, with actually, just like 20 minutes later, we received the notification and the fire had caught up a street above us, so it was definitely all. I was grateful that we were able to leave with that. Um, a little bit of extra time, but I do really feel, um, sad for just all my friends that I heard that were only able to grab their pets or certain little valuable memories because they weren't able to prepare as much as I was. Um, but yeah, that's really the main thing. And also, um, just that experience of bouncing between Airbnbs and my cousin's home, which we later had to evacuate because it also received notice. So it was all it's still foggy. But yeah, those are the main things that I remember. Um, so we're in like Chapman East Pasadena area. Um, so we that's our rental place for the time being. I was lucky enough to have a coach from my club volleyball team, um, have this up for rent. So we were able to have that with a lot of extra resources in the home. Um, so we were able to be lucky enough just to have even, like, a table or like some furniture and a TV. I know a lot of these rental places are really empty, and a lot of these people have to bring in the they're like thrifted items just to sit on a couch. So we were really lucky to have that. But before then, I did bounce around to three Airbnbs, if I remember correctly. Um, it was definitely a lot. I definitely shifted my perspective on how I viewed these households. I kind of viewed it as just a place to stay, not really the significance behind it, but after Altadena, I definitely changed my perspective on it. Um, I think the main thing that I've noticed with Altadena specifically is their community involvement. I think seeing LA County as a whole come together to help the Palisades and Altadena was something so beautiful, just to see how even going through a tragedy, someone could go and use their own resources to help others who are experiencing the exact same tragedy, but may not have that same financial flexibility. So just seeing that really inspired me specifically as well to help and use my community Use resources and just to use my resources to benefit others, because I think that's really what made everyone's experience a little bit better, just to see how everyone is leaning on each other and pushing each other to grow. I mean, to go back to that question of like, what do you want others to remember? Um, I definitely want people to remember, at least from this event and tragedy, specifically the, um, resilience from Altadena and just to see how everyone came together despite the tragedies and how people are kind of carrying themselves, despite losing something so important, they're really willing to rebuild or really willing to help others rebuild. So I think all of that is just so beautiful to see that even though this catastrophic event like, changed the trajectory of our lives, it doesn't define us, and it's how we move forward. That's how it defines us. And I think that's what defines Altadena as a whole.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164554/file/299663#t=3.84,449.99"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164554/file/299663/index/90423","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-10-29 20:59:20) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164554/file/299663/index/90423/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Growing Up in Altadena","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164554/file/299663#t=0.0,66.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164554/file/299663/index/90423/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker reflects on their lifelong connection to Altadena, describing it as a central part of their identity.
