Um, and I think it's my training that has gotten us through what I've experienced since I've been up here January 9th with friends and family. So, yes. Well, I think it's the training I've received from the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team that allows me to be able to to lend some value and be able to lend a helping hand in a very effective way, uh, helping the first responders. And I think that's what has really helped me get through it. It's, you know, bringing resources and bringing, helping and bringing hope, um, to those that's why they call me Rescue Rodney at the American Red cross. And I just tried to put myself in that character to help out friends and family where, where we can and with our company, new life, global development. Yes. Um, because, you know, it's been an uphill battle trying to preserve our historical African American communities. And it was really devastating to see, um, this community go up in flames when it should have been, you know, be something that we need to rebuild. So that's why we're we're still here. Project New Life, our nonprofit and our real estate development company, New Life Global Development to help in the restoration of the community. Um, this is something that's really needed. I think this is going to be the foundation of the resilience of bringing the community back, better even than it was in the past. Um, it's disheartening that a lot of the, uh, third and fourth generation family members may not be able to afford to come back and build, but we we have a plan of resilience on a weekly basis, everybody coming together in different environments. You know, we meet over dinner and restaurants and meet up groups to try to, um, you know, support, you know, each other. But I think everybody coming together and coming up with ideas of how can we rebuild, how can we raise funds, how can we detox the soil and get back to the reconstruction period? But it's the weekly meetings that I think has kept everybody really resilient. Yes. So now that most of the debris removal is is taken care of, we now need to start, um, focusing on testing and detoxing the soil of heavy metals and toxins so the permits can be approved to start the reconstruction. And this is the area, the issues that we're dealing with now. So we have a a Product is called zeolite that we're going to be utilizing to do research and development on how we can detox the soil without removing it. To expedite the reconstruction process. There
text/plain
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699#t=3.64,202.53
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699/transcript/88200/annotation/2
SPEAKER_S2: are also. However, the issue now is coming of how can we get the soil safe enough for people to move back into the community and start the reconstruction. So I think part of the answer would be using this zeolite product called Absorbsi that we now have access to, to help find out how much detoxification we can provide Vide with this product, but we still need tons and tons of support. Um, so we're hoping to bring local businesses to support us. Uh, at project Newlife LA, US project Newlife US is our website. Um, and we're trying to raise funds for, um, debris removal and detoxification of, of the soil because a lot of people didn't have insurance. So we still need lots and lots of support and donations to help detoxify and reconstruct. So this this product which is made by God, it's called zeolite. But there's lots of different zeolite products. We have a product that's called Clinoptilolite zeolite, which is a natural compound formed when lava meets the ocean. And it's a mineral compound with negative ions that will pull Um, um, toxins and heavy metals right out of the soil in a short amount of time without having to remove the soil and take it to another hazardous, hazardous location. So, um, it needs a lot of research and development, but zeolite and clinoptilolite is all over. It's nothing new. You can go on YouTube and research it. We're just wanting to focus on the type of chemicals that's created by wildfires. You know, we know that the government has used zeolite in different areas, like in Europe or overseas, where there's bombings and things like that, and chemicals need to be detoxed. But this product, you know, we till it in the soil leave it for a couple of weeks and then we test it again until it's at the EPA standards of non toxin. And you know but like I say this is the first time this has ever happened in this way. So we're really looking to get this product in the soil so we can see the effects that it can have in detoxing the soil for these families so they can use their permits and start rebuilding their homes. Well, right now we're you know, we're in a fundraising mode. You know, everything. Things like this start out slow because people need more information about the zeolite and what we're going to do. And basically we're offering families that can't afford it to have donations come in to pay for the testing and to pay for the application of the zeolite so they can start rebuilding. But we you know, we're really seeking, you know, more donors to help. So we're going after, um, support for the small businesses through SBA, SBDC in the area to help small businesses so we can help them, help them support us. So families, they help the families and then the families get together community and then can help to restore the businesses and the small businesses in the area. So we're just trying to create that community and that energy where we can gather around this product, look at how it can best help us and how we can support one another. But, you know, we're a lot of donations are needed at project Newlife. You know, it's been it's been really great to to be able to meet with new families at the church at first A.M.E.. Church on a weekly basis and talk to psychologists, psychologists there. We have a whole consortium with Norris Architects and the products that we're going to be using. We're planning to design these homes to be fire resistant this time, but also looking at the long term goals of making sure that the community and in its entirety is safe from toxins and heavy metals and things that the fires have caused. So that's the resiliency part. Every once the houses are rebuilt, you know, can we assure, you know, the residents that the soil and the air and the water is still safe, you know, and the community, that's a huge concern right now. So we want to focus on safety. Yes, reconstruction has to happen in this next phase. And people either need to make the decision whether they want to come back to the community and restore, or if they want to move on. But long term, we want to make sure that the community itself is safe and free of any hazards or toxins. Well, everything is based in the foundation of our faith in God and in our faith is what we know. There's hope, and as long as there's hope, we know there's vision and we can restore. We're strong enough as we say, you know Altadena strong, right? So everyone's coming together, but everything is based in our faith in God. To me, this is kingdom building work. I love it. This is why 15 years ago, I joined the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team. Since then, I've been the ambassador of LA and Inglewood Disaster Preparedness Ambassador as well as shelter readiness. So seeing the effect of what I can do, what I can contribute to those and ease some of the suffering, um, at that time, for those that are going through these type of traumas, it builds me. It builds my resilience and my my faith in God that he would even allow me to be strong enough to choose to help those that are in need. So that's what makes me stronger and keeps me going. Uh, is the kingdom building work, as I call it?
text/plain
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699#t=203.65,612.1
["Auto-generated Index (2025-11-05 21:48:56) [Index]
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699/index/90457/annotation/4
["Title
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699#t=0.0,68.0
https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164590/file/299699/index/90457/annotation/5
The speaker, Rodney Brown, introduces himself as a first responder with the American Red Cross.
