I mean, we're just anxious to get back as soon as possible. Um, I'm anxious for. I mean, I guess what I'm excited about is it's an opportunity to create a campus that's completely state of the art. Everything brand new, really focused on our mission. Um, I think we have a very specific mission. And so to be able to build a school that is completely in support of that mission is exciting. So that's sort of my glass half full, um, uh, hopes for for village and just for everyone to get back and for the kids to have some sense of normalcy again. I think, um, that's what I'm really excited about. So we are are the sort of four keys of our mission are wonder, joy, challenge and childhood. So really focusing on the fact that kids get one childhood. And so what do we want for it to be? We want it to be full of wonder, joy, and challenge. Um, so, you know, it's it's sort of a traditional academic program, but really focused on those three key or four key tenets. Um, and so, yeah, I think at the moment we because we want to get back as quickly as possible, we're just going to stick to the old footprint. Um, because to try to expand it right now is obviously a lot of time and money and additional permits and all that kind of stuff. So I think, you know, maybe in the future there'll be some opportunity to expand once we sort of know who who's coming back and who isn't. But I think for the immediate, we're just going to take the old footprint and rebuild there. I mean, I hope it can be as similar to what it was before as possible. Um, I know there's been a lot of talk about, you know, high density housing and, um, you know, I'm a little bit worried about bringing more people into the Palisades. I think we saw on that day that it was hard to get everyone out, and it was the middle of the day, so most people weren't even there. So, you know, I imagine what it would have been like had it been in the middle of the night or on a weekend when more people were there. So I just hope that whoever is in charge of this is being really thoughtful about making sure that, um, safety is considered. Um, you know, the Palisades only has two ways in and out Sunset or Chautauqua. So I think we need to be really careful of that. And I think there was a really lovely balance of houses, of condos, of apartments, of townhouses, um, and nothing sort of overbearing. You know, there were no ten story condo buildings. There were no huge complexes. And I think that's what drew people to the Palisades. So I hope that they're really careful about that. I hope a lot of the businesses can come back. I know that's probably asking a lot. Um, because people people can't wait that long. Um, but I hope that most of them come back, or at least the types of businesses that were there before come back. Um, and I hope that there's still a mix of sort of smaller, older houses and the bigger new ones. That was important to me too. So I was at work, at school, and so we had to evacuate all of the kids. Um, I also had to run home in the middle of that to grab my cat. Um, because that was sort of back of my mind. So that was the only thing I took from our house was our cat. And then I came back to village, um, and helped with the evacuation. And then at the very end, probably at about 130, there were about six kids left. And so we just each of us took a kid in our car and got out because the the smoke was just so, so close. And we knew that to wait for parents to come to the Palisades to get their kids was not safe. So we just we took kids and we got out of there. So initially we had all of the kids in the gym and the older kids, we put them in the gym because we were initially outside on the on the playground, and the smoke was just freaking the kids out because it was just coming straight over and you could see flames, and it was incredibly scary. So we moved them to the gym, so they were inside. We put a movie on. The older kids were really taking care of the little kids, which was just so heartwarming to see. I'm tearing up thinking about it because I think they were also really scared, but they were able to sort of use that their own emotions and help other people, which made me so proud of them. Um, and the parents got there so quickly. Um, so, you know, I would say by 1230, maybe almost everyone was gone. Um, and we were just waiting on those last few kids, and then it dwindled down and dwindled down. And as I said, there were probably seven left at the end. Almost all of the teachers had gone by then. So there were probably ten of us adults. And then, as I said, 7 or 8 kids. Um, and we were just sort of looking at each other, not knowing what to do. And finally just sort of all in internalized this decision that we've got to get out of here. So we grabbed kids and got in our cars and left. I had a fifth grader in my car, and she was. I gave her my phone, so she was calling her dad and so we knew where he was. So we ended up meeting him on sunset, going towards Brentwood. Um, some other people I know took kids to the country Mart. Met up with their families at the country Mart. Took them home to Brentwood or Santa Monica. So we just sort of. We were on the phone with parents figuring out the best place to take the kids. I mean, I hope it goes quickly. I've been very impressed. The Army Corps of Engineers, I think, was amazing. Um, to have gotten all of this done in the amount of time that they got it done with such professionalism and, um, kindness. When we had our house cleared, they were just they were really lovely to deal with, and I think understood that this was an incredibly traumatic experience for people. Um, so I hope that that, that sort of a similar, um, ethos is used as we continue this, it feels like things have stalled a little bit, which is disappointing. Um, and I feel like there's lots of agencies and people who are sort of fighting for control and, um, you know, it worries me. So I hope I hope we figure it out quickly, um, and are able to move quickly, thoughtfully. Um, and that people, people who are anxious to rebuild can do so quickly. So we have our plans almost finished with the architect and the structural engineers. So we're hoping to get them to the city within the next month or so, and then start as soon as possible after that. I hope the trees come back. That's another thing. Um, we have on our street, there's a bunch of magnolia trees and they've left them there. They don't look very good, but I'm hopeful that they left them there because they think that they'll come back, because that would be pretty stark if all of those trees were to have to be cut down so well again, I hope. I hope a lot of the mature trees can be saved. I hope again when we have to add new trees and garden areas, that we're thoughtful about the types of plants that we use, that they're more native and fire resistant, um, and that the wildlife can come back where we were right on the rim of Potrero Canyon. Um, and so we got to see, you know, bunnies and, and amazing birds. And we heard frogs at night. And I hope that all of those animals are back now, um, and that they, you know, that they are able to repopulate and, and come back because that was another really exciting, fun thing about living in the Palisades and the parrots, the parrots that would fly around like the Palisades, parrots and, um, I hope they all survived the fire and come back.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164606/file/299715#t=3.24,485.09"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164606/file/299715/index/90473","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-12-15 22:16:47) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164606/file/299715/index/90473/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Anticipation and Opportunity in Rebuilding the School","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164606/file/299715#t=0.0,71.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164606/file/299715/index/90473/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker expresses eagerness to return to the school campus and views the rebuilding process as an exciting opportunity to create a modern, state-of-the-art facility.
