I think that we really enjoyed getting together with people in the neighborhood, whether it was our immediate neighborhood or just a couple of blocks away. And I feel like that's the piece I miss most right now is just the the people. I was telling someone earlier, there was a man who would always walk his dog, and I'd wave to him every day. I don't know who he is. I don't know the name of his dog. But we always made eye contact as I was driving down the hill, and I haven't seen him in a long time, and I wonder how he's doing. Yeah, I call Lavinia like the wicked stepsister of Altadena, because it's a gated community. It's, uh, some people would call it cookie cutter, where every third house is the same house. It's a planned development, but everybody's very close there. People really like one another, And what I loved, I love is the wrong word. What really stood out about the fires at that time was neighbors texting one another. Neighbors in a Google group. My older son is severely disabled, so when I started to evacuate him early, one of our neighbors pulled into our driveway right away to make sure we could evacuate him. Okay. Um, our next door neighbor stayed behind and was putting out fires with the hose. Um, our front yard. A couple of other neighbors stayed, stayed, and just started hosing people's front yards off like the grass, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. They didn't have to do that. And that that that was really moving to me, that anybody would care enough about us to almost, you know, basically risk their lives to make sure our house didn't burn down. Yeah. Uh, that's a tough question. So we didn't lose our home. I think that's a very different comparison. Harrison what you may have lost or others to what we did. I think that, uh, I think that my husband and I are very resilient because of the journey we've had with our older son. He had to have half his brain removed to stop his epilepsy. Uh, we've had a very difficult road with him, with multiple hospitalizations, ten brain surgeries, ten other types of surgeries. He's quite intellectually impaired. So we've learned resilience early on, and we've learned to move on. We never dwell in what we can't fix. We never dwell in the past. We're really good at kind of dusting ourselves off and moving on. And I feel like that lesson from my son is what really helped us through this. Just we always say, I don't have a time machine. I can't go back in time and fix what happened. So that's what helped us through that. Yeah, I think, uh, just when we first came back into the neighborhood, everybody was out. Everybody was talking to one another. Uh, sort of like going back to nine over 11. I know you guys weren't even born then, but there was a big sense of community in Lavernia. Um, everyone very curious about how you're doing. Everybody checking up on each other. That that is powerful to me. Just how even neighbors that you don't know super well were coming out onto the street, waving at you, stopping you happy that you're back. That that was neat, because sometimes in modern society, we feel like we don't have neighbors, but we do. Everybody was very happy and trying to help out. Uh, thankfully he does not understand what happened. So I think in many ways he's lucky. Altadena for us, means his bus driver lived right around the corner and was a member of the community who lost his home. Altadena for us is, as you mentioned, the wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds that live there. Wide range of persons of different races. And I don't know how resilient everybody is right now. It's really difficult to speak for an entire group. I worry about what Altadena is going to be like in many ways afterwards. I think it's going to be a very difficult recovery. Yeah, yeah, I want all the old coffee shops back. I want all the old restaurants. I want the hardware store back. Gosh, I loved Altadena Hardware. I worry about worry about what the neighborhood's going to look like. Um, in many respects, I am very, Very upset that this happened in the first place. It should not have happened. Yeah, yeah. On the on the bright side, Altadena was a and still is a beautiful little gem hidden in the hills very close to Los Angeles. It's got natural beauty. It has, uh, tons of diversity. It was magic in that way. On the bad side. On the scary side, this experience taught me that I cannot rely on any anybody else. The government, the police department, the fire department, the electric company, my local state representatives.
