So that day the power was out for a while. Um, but we had gone over to my grandma's retirement community to, I think, celebrate her birthday. And we all brought, like, little, like, candles and lamps and stuff. Um, and then because the TV wasn't working, nothing was really working. We didn't really know, I guess, that the fire started. But then, um, I got a text saying, like, from one of my friends who I'm not super close with, but she was kind of just checking in like, hey, like, I know you're by the fire. Um, like, is everything good? And I was like, what are you talking about? I had no clue what she was talking about, but, um, and then my uncle, who was also there, was kind of like, look, there's a fire nearby. Like, I think we should go home because they have younger kids. I don't know how old they are, like five and six. Um, so we kind of were just like, okay, maybe let's go home. So as we're driving home, you could start to see the flames and we're kind of driving away. So we were driving away and then there was obviously you could see the fire. So we were kind of like, uh oh, like this fire is coming. So we were packing up in the dark, completely dark, because we don't have any power. So I was using, like, my iPad as a flashlight, and I propped it up and I was just trying to, like, find everything that was on my floor. But I did have we had just gotten back from a vacation a bit ago, and it takes me a while to unpack my suitcase because I get really lazy. So I had a suitcase out with a bunch of my clothes and stuff, so that was easy. I kind of just like shoved a few extra things in there and then kind of grabbed what I could of like my valuables, which I don't really have that much because I'm still a kid. So I was like my devices, I guess. And then some of the, like, sentimental things, like some of my stuffed animals. And then I just kind of shoved it in a suitcase and zipped it up. And then everyone was already in the car and I was like the last one. But I was kind of like, ooh, I don't know, I'm just gonna be safe. And so I took that on. And then we went over to one of my close family friend's house for the night. And I love that family. They're the morks. And there's one of the kids is younger, and he's sort of my younger sister's age. And we always play video games together, like we're always playing Fortnite together and like other games like that. So he was like, yeah, let's play Brawl Stars. And we were just playing games all night making hot chocolate. So I didn't really like, I don't know, I had a really nice night, I hate to say it like that, but I had a nice night. And then I went to sleep pretty late, and then in the morning I woke up and they were like, we're going to Vegas because my grandma has an apartment in Vegas that she lives like a third of her time there. And we always go every year for like a little vacation. So we were like, or my parents were kind of just like, let's go to Vegas. Let's get away from this air quality. And so we were on the drive to Vegas, and then, um, I think one of my neighbors who's really old and somehow slept through everyone banging on his door until the police came, he was like, your house is on fire. So my dad, who told my mom and then I was in a car with my mom and my younger sister. And then that's when we figured out we were like, uh oh. So that's kind of it. I mean, he's old and wasn't seeing it, right, but he did. So that was kind of my story, I guess, of the night. So. Well, that night that we evacuated my dad and his on one of our neighbors was they were banging on his door because we know he's very old. He has so many earring hearing issues, like he's always wearing his earring, hearing aids and stuff, but he's very hard of hearing. So we were they were banging on his door and they were like, we call him uncle Bob. Uncle Bob like, come out. You need to come out. There's like fires. We're evacuating. And we just thought he had already gone. But apparently he slept through everything and only woke up when the police were screaming through the megaphones like, you need to evacuate, you need to evacuate. And so by the time he had come out, our house was already in flames. And so he was like. And he lives directly across the street, like he always used our, our, um, driveway to back into his house and stuff. So he was like, it's on fire. And he took a photo. I have a photo of like it in flames. So that was really crazy to see. We lived on Hartwell Court in Lavernia, like the little neighborhood up at the top. Yeah. So it was kind of crazy because I think the embers just pick and chose which houses to take down. And I think the two houses next to us were like completely fine. So it was kind of weird to see. I had like a gut feeling because one of my friends, um, had texted me like, look like they were checking up on me. And I was like, what about you? Don't you live closer? And he was like, yeah, you know, like the fire is like down my street. And I was like, oh, shoot. And then and then obviously I started crying because I'm like, oh, no. But his house survived. Surprisingly. I have no clue how, because he told me that night that we were packing up that his street was on fire. I was like, apparently they all stood there with hoses, but which is probably what we should have done. But yeah, I think not on my street, but I did hear of someone like a couple streets down in that same gated community who is who saved their neighbor's houses and their own house with like, the pool water, I think. I'm not quite sure. Um, I had a, I had like a bunch of clothes in it, so I wasn't, I don't know, I packed a lot of clothes for some reason. I don't know why. And I packed oh my gosh, I panicked and I was like looking around my room and I didn't know what to pack. And I started shoving things in my suitcase. And I brought a homecoming dress that I thrifted and I have never worn before. I don't even think it's that cute. And so now I have a homecoming dress that I'm never gonna wear. But, I mean, like, it was just a bunch of random things I couldn't think in the moment. I was having, like, a really hard time. I was just kind of, like, going in circles, like, what do you even do? I bring my floor was covered in things like it was it was pretty rough. But yeah, I had a lot of artwork, so I do a lot of drawing and stuff. So all like my paintings and that kind of stuff, like you can't really replace that. And it took me a while for each one of those. So I think just that I haven't done anything yet. Um, but I do have there's a competition I'm answering in that's due August 1st, which is really close and it's called cityscapes. It's by the Ten War Gallery. I think it's just like a little monthly competition, small one. And I was like, oh, maybe I should do like an Altadena thing because the cityscape is like bare now, like there's not really much, but something related to that. I think that would be interesting for a competition, but I kind of just, I don't know, I don't know if I want to look at a photo 24 seven and draw like a burning house. So I think mostly my parents, I didn't really I feel like I didn't really talk to many other people about it. Like people obviously were saying like, oh, like sorry. Like, we're so sorry about your house. But it was kind of just like this. Didn't really talk to anyone in depth about it. But my parents were very much like, you know, like you just got to move on. Like we got to pick ourselves up really quickly. So it was that was nicer to know, like I wasn't being, you know, if everyone around you is sad, you're gonna be sad. But they were really like, we got to move on quickly and we got to get our life together. So that was a lot better. I think it was just a crazy night, but I haven't. I've been fine. I love my new house. We replaced, so I'm not quite sure. I don't think so. I think we're just gonna sell the plot, but we. Yeah, we bought a new house, and I love where we're at, so we're in Pasadena on Grand, so it's like. It's nice. It's a nice house, and I think I like it a lot more. It's a totally different. We had a more compact, two story house where there was like every room was like so squished together. But it was two stories. So there was like, I guess technically more space. But then now we moved into like a little one story house and it's got a little back house that I spent all my time in doing my art and stuff, and then it's just a lot like a nicer, like, more open layout. I really like it, and it's way decluttered. There was so much clutter at my old house.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164585/file/299694#t=4.08,525.09"}]},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164585/file/299694/index/90452","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Auto-generated Index (2025-11-05 22:13:18) [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164585/file/299694/index/90452/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Power Outage and Family Gathering","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164585/file/299694#t=0.0,8.0"},{"id":"https://lapl.aviaryplatform.com/collections/3578/collection_resources/164585/file/299694/index/90452/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The speaker introduces herself and describes a day when the power was out.
